This weekend, I attended one of the coolest events I have ever been to. GenreCon - Alchemy 2025.
What is GenreCon? An initiative of Queensland Writers Centre, GenreCon is Australia's leading conference dedicated to genre writers.
On Friday, Feb 28, I drove 4.5 hours from NSW to QLD and attended the Lauch night at Cloudland bar - an experience all of its own! Being a dress up party, with the theme being 'Casting Spells', the magic started as soon as you walked in the door.
Greeted by wizards, Faries, and everything in between, I instantly felt welcome is a room full of strangers!
Day One - we were incredibly lucky to start the conference with some amazing speakers! Day one consisted of Lori-Jay Ellis, Steff Green, Graham Akhurst, Trent Jamieson, James Maxwell, Catherine Bilson, Tansy Rayner Roberts, Eugen Bacon, Amy Andrews, Laurie Steed, HM Hodgson, Stacey McEwan, Michael Burge, Holly Brunnbauer, Geneve Flynn and Pamela Jeffs!
Woah! So much talent! Day two wasn't much different! Many of the same speakers came back for day two, with a few additions.
Day Two - Graham Akhurst, Steff Green, Eugen Bacon, Laurie Steed, Michael Burge, Peter Papathanasiou, Geneve Flynn, L. E. Daniels, Pamela Jeffs, Samuel Bernard, James Maxwell, Stacey McEwan, Jack Roney, Tansy Rayner Roberts, Phil Brown, Jane Hultgren, Amy Andrews and Nick Sulway!
I learnt so much, invaluable advice about the craft and industry of writing. I seriously cannot wait until next year!!
